From Tesco to Threaplands: Local Hero to the Rescue

It started, as many small-business adventures do, with good intentions and a slightly over-optimistic event schedule.

We were all set to spend Saturday at Tesco Elgin, cards packed, volunteers primed, ready to charm shoppers into supporting local mental health work. Then came the email: a national charity would be taking our slot instead.

Before you picture us sulking into our coffee, let’s be clear: this isn’t a gripe. The charity does fantastic work, and these things happen. But it does highlight how tricky it can be for small, local projects (hello, that’s us) to keep momentum when the big names roll through.

Our model’s pretty simple: every single penny of profit funds mental health initiatives here in Moray. No shareholders. No marketing budget. Just local people trying to do local good. So yes, losing a day of card sales stings a bit. Nt for ego, but because it’s our community that misses out.

Anyway. Cue the plot twist.

Enter Ben from Threaplands Garden Centre. When he heard we’d been bumped, he immediately offered us a space that same Saturday. No paperwork, no fuss, just “come along, we’ll make it work.”

And just like that, we were back on.

So this weekend, you’ll find us at Threaplands, 11 a.m.–3 p.m., surrounded by plants, coffee, and the nicest humans in Lhanbryde. Cards will be sold, conversations will be had, and - most importantly - mental-health support will keep on being funded right here in Moray.

Massive thanks to Ben and the Threaplands team for proving that local supporting local still has plenty of roots.

Here’s to small kindnesses growing into big change.
